If you’ve spoken to myself or anyone else at Riseley Street Dental in the past month or so, you’ll no doubt have heard us rant and rave about our latest exciting piece of equipment – the EMS Airflow Prophylaxis Master. Read on to discover what this machine means for our patients, even the ones who haven’t previously been interested in dental technology!
What is it? – The EMS Airflow is a Swiss-engineered product which is the result of over 100,000 hours of technical and clinical testing in collaboration with leading dental professionals all over the world. It’s characterized by unique ergonomics, high precision, easy maintenance and compliance with the highest hygiene standards – all so that you can be sure you’re receiving absolutely the highest level of dental care available.
How does it work? – The Airflow uses pressurised air and a special proprietary powder, encased in a fine curtain of warmed sterile water, to comfortably yet efficiently remove plaque or bacterial deposits on teeth. It’s similar to a miniaturised pressure cleaner for teeth, but unlike the readily available “air flossers” or “water picks” that can be found in stores, it is actually capable of removing bacteria effectively.
What makes it more comfortable? – Although dental technology has come a long way since the mid 1900’s, the scraping of teeth and use of ultrasonics has remained relatively unchanged for decades. Both of these cleaning methods have a certain sound or sensation associated with them, whereas the Airflow sounds and feels more like a powerful miniaturised showerhead.
Why is it better? – Although it can’t remove all of the tough or hardened tartare, the Airflow removes all of the other colonies of bacteria in a way that’s even less invasive than our rubber polishing cup and paste! It’s more efficient, accesses harder-to-reach areas, and even enables removal of stains that we previously were unable to remove without risking damage to precious tooth enamel.
What has the feedback been? – So far, for our patients who have suffered from dental sensitivity especially at their routine clean appointments, the Airflow has been a Godsend. These are the patients who have always previously asked “why does the water feel so cold” or “why does the machine have to sound so high-pitched” or “why do some of my teeth react so strongly”. Their days of discomfort at the dentist are now over! Our clinicians are also loving the fact that they can deliver a more thorough and efficient clean with less operator fatigue.
The EMS Airflow is completely changing the way we practice routine dental hygiene, and the technology will undoubtedly be a necessary part of every dental practice in the future.
If you’d like to experience the EMS Airflow for yourself, we’d be happy to organise an appointment for you. Bookings available online, or call 9316 2304 to speak to one of our friendly front desk staff ?
